The French Pastry School Welcomes a New Team Member

Chicago, Illinois (September 3, 2010) – The newest addition to The French Pastry School at City Colleges of Chicago, Chef Melissa Chanselle-Hary, brings varied experiences to her position as Kitchen Assistance Coordinator. Chanselle-Hary pursued studies in theatre arts at the Virginia Commonwealth University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, majoring in Theatre Performance. After working as a professional actress and teacher, with roles that included acting in training simulations for United States government agencies, directing an acting school in London, Chanselle-Hary changed professions and pursued her passion for pastry.
After completing The French Pastry School’s L’Art de la Pâtisserie Program, Chanselle-Hary stayed on at the school working as a Chef Assistant where she aided the instructors in the full-time program as well as visiting Master Pastry Chefs who taught Continuing Education classes. She worked in pastry departments at luxury hotels in Washington D.C. including The Ritz-Carlton and The Mandarin Oriental Hotels before returning to Chicago.

“We are very happy to have Melissa back at the school as a member of our faculty,” said Chef Sébastien Canonne, M.O.F., Co-Founder and Dean for Faculty and Programs. “Her talent, enthusiasm, creativity, dedication, and drive are an inspiration to our students. And like Melissa, many of them are career changers. It’s important for them to see that with hard work and qualities such as hers, you will succeed in this industry.”

Chef Chanselle-Hary will be leading the team of Chef Assistants at The French Pastry School as the Kitchen Assistance Coordinator, guiding them in their daily activities in support of the Chef Instructors, students’ activities, and numerous events at the school.
