Della Gossett of The French Pastry School Endorses Let’s Move! Campaign

Chicago, Illinois (June 25, 2010) – Della Gossett, Chef Instructor at The French Pastry School, formerly of Charlie Trotters, attended a special breakfast at the White House on Friday, June 4th for the kick-off event of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign, designed with the goal to end childhood obesity. Let’s Move! is partnering with Share Our Strength, a national organization that works to make sure no child in America goes hungry. Share our Strength invited hundreds of chefs from around the nation to the White House for a breakfast with First Lady Obama, White House Assistant Chef Sam Kass, and Share Our Strength Executive Director, Billy Shore. Around 700 chefs including Chef Della attended.

This initiative incorporates the “Chefs Move to Schools” program run through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which will pair chefs with interested schools in their communities so together they can create healthy meals that meet the schools’ dietary guidelines and budgets, while teaching young people about nutrition and making balanced and healthy choices. Chef Della, as a part of Chefs Move to Schools, will adopt schools in Chicago to support First Lady Obama’s mission.

“It was truly inspiring to hear Mrs. Obama speak, and be surrounded by hundreds of other Chefs from around the country who are all passionate about this goal,” said Della Gossett. “It’s always been very important to me as a chef to be able share the importance of high quality foods and nutrition with young people, and what I endeavor to communicate to my students. I’m very excited about this program!”

Della Gossett’s philosophy mirrors that of The French Pastry School. “We are always striving for excellence,” says Della. “We use only top quality, all natural ingredients, and emphasize creating small portions of the sweeter elements.” The French Pastry School is dedicated to advancing the highest standards of craftsmanship in each new generation of pastry artisans, promoting high quality and healthy food. Stories of The French Pastry School’s programs have been featured in countless US and overseas trade and retail publications and books, TV stations, documentaries, and internet websites, where they have been showcased as one of the leading pastry institutions in the world. Most importantly, the numerous success stories of their alumni are their pride. Their alumni have established businesses everywhere in the US and are now the thousands of advocates that try to communicate the importance of healthy initiatives like First Lady Michelle Obama’s.

The French Pastry School is thrilled to support these initiatives and Chef Della’s involvement. The school was also overjoyed to host Chef Bill Yosses, Executive Pastry Chef at the White House, for their bi-annual graduation ceremony on June 18th as their honored guest speaker. Students in the 24-week L’Art de la Pâtisserie, The Professional Pastry & Baking Program celebrated last Friday with a ceremony at the Union League Club of Chicago followed by a reception at The French Pastry School.
