“Pursue what makes you the best version of yourself. For me, that is helping other people turn their pastry dreams into a reality.”

Megan McCarthy is the Associate Dean of The French Pastry School at Kennedy-King College of City Colleges of Chicago. Megan works with the Admissions Department to guide prospective students towards the programs best suited to their goals and is an essential resource in assisting with the application and registration processes. Megan graduated L’Art du Gâteau in 2012 and is able to counsel students based on her own experience in the pastry field.

Like many students in our full-time programs, Megan came to The French Pastry School as a career-changer. After graduating from Loyola University Chicago with a Bachelors in Political Science, she worked with non-profits until it became clear that her heart was in baking. Megan came to The French Pastry School to find an education which focused on cake decorating fundamentals that offered a daily challenge of more advanced techniques, like stringwork piping and specimen gumpaste flowers. After graduation, Megan stayed on as an intern in the six-month pastry internship program. This internship allowed her to assist world-class chefs while she developed her own pastry skills.

Megan came back to The French Pastry School in 2014 to work as the Culinary Administrative Coordinator, and is now a member of the Admissions team. Megan’s one piece of advice to every incoming student is simple: “Pursue what makes you the best version of yourself. For me, that is helping other people turn their pastry dreams into a reality.”
